The bead stair helps children develop a sense of order and quantity from 1-9, as they arrange the bead bars in order from shortest to longest in pyramid formation, and as they count the beads on each bead bar. When the child is ready to begin combining numerals with quantities, this bead stair extension, called the hanging bead stair, helps facilitate that concept. Many future lessons involve the bead bars, to develop a foundation for addition, multiplication, squaring, cubing, and more.
